Almost four years after her last World Cup victory, New Zealander Alice Robinson won the giant slalom at Kronplatz, Italy, on Tuesday. Federica Brignone, who had closed the starting gate for the second round, missed a gate.

March 21, 2021. Since that day, Alice Robinson had not experienced the joy of a World Cup victory. The New Zealander was then 19 years old and won her third success in Lenzerheide. The interminable wait ended this Tuesday, at the giant of Kronplatz. The Sydney native, who moved to New Zealand at the age of 4, finished fifth in the first heat in the morning, and then set the fastest time in the second. All that remained was to wait for the four skiers who were going to leave after her. Thea Louise Stjernesund first set the 18th time of the round, finishing 1″50 behind Robinson, then Sara Hector fell at the start of the run. Lara Gut-Behrami then made the New Zealander tremble a little, but she finally failed by 56 hundredths. It remained for Federica Brignone, the winner of the first round and leader of the World Cup, to close the starting gate. But she missed a door at the start of the roundoffering victory to Alice Robinson on a plate!

Gut-Behrami returns to Brignone

Lara Gut-Behrami finished second and the American Paula Moltzan third (after finishing tenth in the first round), which allowed her to reach the fourth podium of her career, at 30 years old. On the French side, only one skier qualified for the second round, Clara Direz. And she took 28th and last place in the ranking, 4”44 behind Robinson. Following this race, Federica Brignone retains first place in the general classification, but Lara Gut-Behrami returns to 55 points. In the Giant World Cup standings, Alice Robinson takes the lead, four points ahead of Sara Hector. Next meeting for the best skiers in the world: the Garmisch-Partenkirchen descent on Saturday.
