South Korean companies Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are considering moving some of their home appliance manufacturing from their Mexican factories to their U.S. factories, a South Korean newspaper reported Tuesday.
The review comes as US President Donald Trump said he plans to impose 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico on February 1.
Samsung Electronics plans to move dryer manufacturing from its factory in Mexico to its factory in South Carolina, the Korea Economic Daily reported, citing unnamed industry sources.
-LG Electronics is also considering moving refrigerator manufacturing from Mexico to its Tennessee plant, which makes washers and dryers, according to the newspaper.
Samsung said it plans to monitor the situation and respond flexibly as it operates production bases in many parts of the world. LG Electronics said it plans to respond to market changes by adapting its production system and production sites.
