A fire broke out around 6 a.m. this Saturday morning in a two-story building located at 33 rue Montbazon, near Bordeaux city hall, confirmed to 20 Minutes the Gironde firefighters. Six hoses were mobilized to fight the flames and 71 firefighters were present at the height of the intervention.
Around thirty people evacuated
Eleven people were rescued from the ladder and 19 others were evacuated later. “They were grouped together in an assembly point because they could not stay outside given the cold,” said the firefighters. Two young men aged 20 and 21 were transported, one to Saint-André hospital and the other to Pellegrin, after being bothered by the smoke.
The fire has been considered contained since 9 a.m. The extent of the damage affecting the two floors of the building is still difficult to assess. At the end of the morning, rue Montbazon is still closed.
