Like last year, Sam Welsford won the 1st stage of the Tour Down Under this Tuesday. The sprinter from the Red Bull-BORA-Hansgrohe team won in Gumeracha by a fairly large margin… to the point of letting up very early. Matthew Brennan (Visma | Lease a Bike, 2nd) could have benefited from it. Matthew Walls accompanied them on the podium, for Groupama-FDJ. Here is the finish of the race, on video.
