Chihuahua, beagle, border collie… Discover the most popular dog and cat breeds in Aveyron and

The pet identification company, which manages, among other things, the national identification file for dogs and cats (I-Cad), revealed on January 10 the most popular breeds in and Aveyron, in 2024 .

Like every year at this time, the company for the identification of domestic carnivores (I-Cad) reveals the ranking of breeds and racial appearances of the most popular dogs and cats in 2024 by the French.

This organization, under the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, relied for this on its national identification file.

If at the national level the Australian Shepherd dominates the ranking with 33,548 identifications, the ranking differs somewhat at the department level.

The border collie comes first in Aveyron

With 508 new identifications in 2024, the border collie tops the most popular dogs in Aveyron. It is ahead of the Australian Shepherd (272 new identifications) and the Chihuahua (156). The dachshund (154) and the beagle (153) complete the top 5 in the local ranking.

In Occitania, the ranking also varies very slightly. If the national trio (Australian shepherd, chihuahua, border collie) is very present locally, the beagle reaches fourth position regionally ahead of the spitz. Very popular in , the golden retriever and the labrador only come in 6th and 7th position for new identifications in Occitania.

  • 8th: French Bulldog: 2,090
  • 9e : Epagneul breton : 1 919
  • 10e : Staffordshire bull terrier : 1 762

What about cats?

For cats, the national and regional podium is also very close. The European cat crushes the competition with 773,181 new identifications in 2024, including 84,506 in Occitania. It is ahead of the Maine Coon (40,219, including 4,535 in Occitania) and the Burmese Coon (10,182). The only notable difference is that third place in Occitania goes to the Siamese and its 1,135 new identifications in 2024.
