Religious service:

At 9 a.m., Mr. Trump will begin the day by attending a church service at St. John’s Episcopal Church, located across Lafayette Park from the White House, a tradition for presidents-elect.

Tea at the White House:

Mr Trump and Melania Trump will meet outgoing President Joe Biden and his first lady Jill Biden at the White House for tea, traditionally held to welcome a new president.

Swearing-in ceremony in the Capitol rotunda:

Donald Trump is expected to be sworn in shortly before noon. But here are the details of the ceremony:

Farewell to the former president:

A formal farewell ceremony will be held for Mr. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as they leave the Capitol.

The President’s signing ceremony:

Mr. Trump will visit the President’s Room, located just off the Senate Chamber in the Capitol, for a signing ceremony, during which members of Congress will witness the signing of appointments, memorandums or executive orders by the newly sworn-in president.

Inaugural lunch:

The new president and vice president attend a luncheon at Statuary Hall in the Capitol, hosted by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.

Military passage:

After lunch, the President and Vice President walk to the steps of the East Front of the Capitol, where they review military troops.

Presidential parade:

Due to the cold, Mr. Trump is moving the traditional parade down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol One Arena in Washington. The event is expected to feature speeches by Mr. Trump and marching bands.

Ceremony in the Oval Office:

Mr. Trump visits the White House for a ceremony in the Oval Office.

Inaugural balls:

  • Commander in Chief’s Inaugural Ball: Country music group Rascal Flatts and country singer Parker McCollum will perform at this ball for members of the armed forces. Trump should speak.
  • Liberty Inauguration Ball: Rapper Nelly, country singer Jason Aldean and disco group The Village People will perform at this ball for Donald Trump supporters. The latter should give a speech.
  • Starlight Ball: Singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw will perform and Mr. Trump will speak at the third inaugural ball, whose guests are expected to be major donors to the new president.

National Prayer Service:
