27-year-old prisoner found dead in his cell

Saturday morning, January 18, an inmate was found lifeless in a cell at the Berthoud regional prison (BE). Despite the resuscitation measures taken immediately, the rescuers could only note the man’s death.

The deceased is a 27-year-old Bosnian national from the canton of Bern. The Bernese cantonal police carried out an investigation into the death, led by the Emmental-Upper Aargau Regional Public Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation revealed that intervention by a third party can be ruled out. The Institute of Forensic Medicine at the University of Bern has clarified the cause of death.
