This weekend we learned of the death of Alain Poncet, emblematic President of Chambéry Savoie Mont-Blanc Handball.

Alain Poncet died of cancer during the night from Saturday to Sunday.

Nearly 40 years of presence at the club

The Savoyard entrepreneur who was also elected municipally in Jacob-Bellecombette arrived at Chambéry Savoie Mont-Blanc Handball as a partner (for around ten years) before taking over as President in 1997. A position he held for these Last 28 years. He is therefore at the origin of the numerous developments of the club, which remains one of the great French teams.

Several titles won

The club recalls that under his presidency, Chambéry Savoie Mont Blanc Handball won: the French Championship (2001), the Coupe de la Ligue (2002), the Champions Trophy (2013) and the Coupe de (2019). The club has also participated in numerous European campaigns and developed renowned players.

Alain Poncet was also a member of the steering committee of the Professional Handball League since its foundation in 2004, a driving force in professional handball, he became the president of the Union of Professional Handball Clubs in 2023.

Many tributes

Several tributes will be paid to him by the club, notably during the next official match at the Phare on February 16.

In the meantime, many handball personalities have paid tribute to his memory, such as the President of the French Handball Federation Philippe Bana.
