Jannik Sinner vs. Holger Rune
Nothing comes easily between the Italian and the Dane. The first two times they played, Rune won in three sets. The last two times they played, it was Sinner who won in three.
Two of those matches took place on hard courts and two on red clay in Monte Carlo, where they both reside. Regardless of the surface, the exchanges were physical and hard-fought, with the loser handing victory to the winner.
Two years ago, Sinner, 23, and Rune, 21, were both in the Top 10 and were seen as future rivals. In 2024, their paths separate. Sinner rose as high as No. 1, while Rune dropped to No. 17 and fell from the shortlist of Grand Slam contenders. Sinner improved his serve, reduced his errors and learned to play with decisive aggression. Rune, on the other hand, seems uncertain about his tactics, and prone to panic and haste at important moments.
