During the Edmonton Oilers’ 3-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night, captain Connor McDavid was expelled from the match for a double check to the attacker’s face Conor Garland. The incident which occurred at the end of the match will be reviewed by the National Hockey League security department.

Frustrated by the lack of a penalty when he was held by Garland, McDavid tried to get revenge as the Oilers tried to tie the score.

Pursuant to Rule 21 of the NHL rulebook, a match penalty is assessed to any player who deliberately attempts to injure an opponent. The player is suspended from all activity until the league renders its verdict.

McDavid was previously suspended two games in 2019 for a hit to the head Nick Leddy.

Therefore, a decision from the NHL should be announced in the coming hours.
