Mortal aperitifs, hours, workshops: how to talk about death without taboo with the association For a funeral alternative

For a funeral alternative in was created in November 2020. It intends to raise awareness and inform citizens about possible funeral choices accessible to all and strives to be educational. She continues to carry out numerous actions; a little overview at the start of the year.

Offices

It’s new. They were launched in November. They are dedicated to listening and providing advice on funeral matters. They are notably an opportunity to work individually on the important issue of advance directives.
They are held at the Maison des associations, rue Sainte-Catherine, in Orléans, every first Thursday of the month, from 2 to 4 p.m.

For people who cannot travel, it is possible to organize a telephone appointment by contacting us by email: [email protected].

Deadly aperitifs

The association is organizing its third deadly aperitif very soon. These are “friendly moments, in welcoming places, where we talk about death in a simple, free and without taboo way”. “It is neither a therapeutic approach nor an intellectual reflection, but rather a space for sharing and meeting to break the silence around this often avoided subject. All this, in a relaxed and caring atmosphere,” develops the association.

The next aperitif will take place on Friday January 24, at 7 p.m., at Bonne Pioche, rue de Bourgogne, in Orléans. It will be hosted by Noémie Robert who will use storytelling to address the subject. Free participation (no reservation but compulsory consumption).

Noémie Robert will train 12 people in Orléans and in the metropolis so that they can, in turn, provide this type of activity.

“Funeral information” workshops

Funeral information workshops are offered in residences for the elderly in particular. Dominique Laurent, development manager (the association’s sole employee) hosted one at the Isabelle-Romée home, in Orléans, recently. It brought together 25 people, residents and families.

Dominique Laurent confides:

-

“Everyone has that in mind, but some are very knotted about talking about it. Finally, tongues loosen quickly and I always have difficulty closing the workshop because they have so much to say. »

Dominique Laurent (

She returns to the most frequently asked questions: “How can I organize myself so as not to have this weigh on my loved ones? If I die at home, can I stay at home? How much does a funeral cost? “.

Study days

The third day of study will take place Friday, January 24, at the Regional School of Social Work, in Olivet. It is not intended for the general public, but for professionals, in particular social workers and home helpers. It has 120 registered participants. The chosen theme: “Death and precarity, dying in an institution”.

In total, the association has already trained around 500 professionals. “It’s essential because many people who face death in their daily lives are not trained,” underlines Nathalie Grenon, the president.

Cultural visits

The association organizes, for example, visits to cemeteries or visits to museums, with death as a central theme.

A project

Launch a cooperative society of collective interest to help people in precarious situations, to help them finance the funeral of a loved one.
