ALPINE SKI WORLD CUP 2024-2025 – At home, Federica Brignone enjoyed a resplendent success in the Super-G in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The Italian, untouchable today, won far ahead of the Swiss duo Lara Gut-Behrami and Corinne Suter.
First to set off on the Italian track, Corinne Suter established a fine weather benchmark (1:22.72) that neither Roman Miradoliis Marta Bassino failed to beat. The Frenchwoman didn’t go far from making a mistake at the top of the course, which caused her to lose speed. And the Transalpine, although well launched, was unable to complete the route. On the podium last year, Laura Gauché was unable to repeat his performance. More solid, the Swiss remained in control before the launch of the headliners and a rocket named Brignone.
Federica Brignone intouchable
Like an arrow, Federica Brignone then rolled down the slope. Constantly looking for speed, the local increased the gap at each intermediate to cross the line more than a second ahead of Suter. His compatriot Sofia Goggiawinner of the downhill the day before, was far from being able to compete. The fault in particular is a somewhat soft start which does not allow him to get on the box.
It is Lara Gut-Behrami who was best suited to compete with Brignone today. The Swiss left the suspense until mid-race, falling slightly behind by 16 hundredths before getting trapped and losing precious time. She finished second (+0.58). After the first 15 starters, the podium was still within reach. And Lindsey Vonn was on track to take advantage of these gaps. At the same time as Suter halfway through the Super-G, it was a fall – fortunately not serious – which prevented her from being rewarded.
-The ranking has therefore no longer evolved for the medal. Federica Brignoneas a boss, won her first career victory in Cortina and further confirmed her presence for the overall victory. Lara Gut-Behrami follows the Italian in second position ahead of bib 1 of this Super-G, Corinne Suter, who signs her first podium this season.
As for the French team, Karen Clement finishes best tricolor while Clara Direznot in the best of his physical form, ultimately did not start his first Super-G in the World Cup.
