Eva Lys, the beautiful story of the Australian Open
It’s a story just like tennis likes. A player eliminated in the last round of qualifying, her return plane ticket booked for the next morning. And then, a last minute package, a little helping hand from destiny, lucky-loser status and a second chance. Tuesday, Eva Lys grabbed it with both hands by replacing the Russian Anna Kalinskaya at short notice and beating the Australian Kimberly Birrell (6-2, 6-2) in the first round of the main draw.
