Giovanni’s little sister eliminated the American Shannon Lam in two sets (7-5, 6-2). It took mental strength because the thermometer exceeded 30°. In the second round, she will face the German Julia Stusek (n°16).

Margot Phantala also entered the fray later in the day on court 15 against a top seed: the Bulgarian Elizara Yaneva (No. 8). Logically, the latter took the upper hand 6-1, 6-3.
