The body of a hostage recovered by Israel. The Israeli army announced Sunday morning that it had recovered in Gaza the body of soldier Oron Shaul, killed in 2014 and whose remains had since been held by Hamas. “Efforts to find him, including information and intelligence gathering, continued throughout the past decade and intensified during the war”the Israeli army and intelligence services said in a statement. The body of Oron Shaul, a 21-year-old sergeant, was captured by Hamas during an Israeli army operation in Gaza City on July 20, 2014. With Hadar Goldin, another soldier whose remains remain detained by Hamas, he was one of the two faces of the campaign for the release of the hostages, before October 7, 2023. There are now 97 Israeli hostages remaining in Gaza, including 36 presumed dead.
