Kike Salas returned to the field with Sevilla FC last Saturday, against Girona, at the heart of a controversy linked to allegations of fraud linked to illegal betting. The 22-year-old defender came on in the 71st minute when the score was 1-1, replacing Pedrosa. Salas played a vital role in his side’s victory at the Montilivi, powered by an 88th-minute Lukebakio goal.
Initially on the bench for this match against Girona, Salas went through a tumultuous week. His presence in the group was not anticipated, having started in the previous match. However, coach García Pimienta decided to use him in the final minutes of the match, despite the controversy surrounding his situation, ultimately leading Sevilla FC to victory.
Earlier in the week, police stopped Salas during a training session to question him over allegations of fraud linked to yellow cards obtained for illegal betting during the end of last season. A court in Morón de la Frontera is currently investigating the player, suspected of having orchestrated actions that led to sanctions during La Liga matches, allowing certain people around him to make financial profits.

-Additionally, authorities are also examining two associates of Salas, believed to be closely linked to him. The investigation suggests that Salas allegedly conspired with this knowledge to intentionally obtain yellow cards during league matches, allowing them to place informed bets by taking advantage of his warnings.
This investigation, led by a unit of the National Police, focuses on several matches towards the end of the last season, when Sevilla FC was no longer fighting for survival and no longer had aspirations of European qualification. Nonetheless, investigators are determined to gather evidence and testimony to precisely establish the timing of the alleged malfeasance by Salas and his accomplices betting on his sanctions.
