Neighbors are still in shock, the day after the fire which broke out in a building in Miramas, in Bouches-du-Rhône, on Friday January 17. “The neighbor across the street told me: ‘We have to go down, we have to go down!’ There is fire,” says Denise, still in shock, at the microphone of BFM Marseille Provence.
“I saw a woman lying down and the firefighters were helping her,” adds Claude.
Olivier, another local resident, finds the events “dramatic”, stressing that he does not understand that “this kind of thing can happen in a small town like Miramas”.
A criminal origin
Four people were rescued by firefighters. Among them, a 41-year-old mother died from her injuries.
-Her children were also injured in the fire. According to our information, his 5-year-old son, seriously burned, is still in critical condition. The 5-year-old girl’s health has improved. The father, aged 69, is conscious but burned to the face and hands.
The authorities concluded “with certainty” that the origin of the fire was criminal. An investigation into attempted homicide by an organized gang and intentional destruction by fire by an organized gang was opened by the Aix-en-Provence public prosecutor’s office.
