TRANSPORT – After Paris, Bordeaux. The heaviest non-professional vehicles, in particular certain SUVs, will have to pay a rate 30% higher than that in force to park in the city from May 2, the environmentalist town hall indicated on Friday January 17.
“A new price will be introduced for the heaviest cars. (…) This increase concerns subscriptions and the hourly rate. On the other hand, the subscription of professionals is exempt”we can read in a press release.
The town hall, led by the ecologist Pierre Hurmic, explains this choice in particular by “a stronger ecological impact” of these vehicles which “generate more pollution and increase CO2 emissions”but also “roads deteriorate more quickly” because of their weight or “a greater occupation of public space (…) by their bulky volume (which) reduces parking capacity”.
The vehicles affected by this price increase are those above 1,600 kg for thermal models and above 1,900 kg for hybrid and electric models, specifies the town hall, which emphasizes that this would represent around 10% of subscribers (excluding professionals). ) and 14% of visitors.
-In Paris, visitors who own an SUV have since October 1 had to pay an amount three times higher than what they previously paid to park on the streets of the capital. However, this measure does not concern residents.
