Ford in turn wants to ease the burden on left-behind EV buyers

Ford offers up to $5,000 to match eliminated federal incentive

Applicable to models delivered before the end of January
Ford is the latest to announce that it will replace the suddenly eliminated federal iZEV incentive with an incentive of its own. Select Ford and Lincoln EV and PHEV models will benefit from the incentive until the end of January to ease the transition for buyers who were preparing to take ownership of a new plug-in model.
Ford’s statement reads:
“While suspending the iZEV program on such short notice was incredibly disruptive, building a sustainable electric vehicle business with a highly competitive cost structure that balances growth and profitability remains a priority for Ford.
The federal government’s abrupt suspension of the iZEV program will negatively impact the sale of electric vehicles, and we urge the government to reinstate the incentives as soon as possible to help customers transition to electric vehicles.
In response to the suspension of the iZEV program by the federal government, Ford Canada is implementing an incentive for manufacturers. The incentive will be available for sales of eligible vehicles between January 13 and 31, 2025, to help customers make the transition. This incentive is not intended to permanently replace the iZEV program.
-Models covered by a $5,000 incentive include the 2023-2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E, 2024-2025 Ford Escape VEHR and 2023-2025 F-150 Lightning in Pro and XLT trims. The 2024-2025 Lincoln Corsair VEHR has a $2,500 incentive.
Ford is the second automaker to officially announce plans to help buyers, Nissan being the first. Other manufacturers are expected to follow suit, and we’ve heard that several of them are already doing so unofficially.
