François Verove lost his life on September 29, 2021. Despite this disappearance, the man formerly nicknamed Le Grêlé, has just seen justice reopen a case. Indeed, investigating judge Nathalie Turquey, at the head of this Nanterre cold case division, reopened the serial-killer case in November 2024 as announced BFMTV.
And this, with the aim of clarifying a murder committed in 1990 in the woods of Saint-Aubin (Essonne). At that time, as our colleagues point out, “Investigators found a man tied to a tree, with a bullet behind his head.”
The woods of Saint-Aubin, a few years ago, were known to be a popular meeting place for delinquents and exhibitionists. For years, investigators tried to find the suspect but were never successful.
Signs that link Grêlé to the affair
However, justice could definitively close the case by finding the perpetrator several years later. If nothing guarantees that it is the Hail, a PA MAC 50 bullet found at the crime scene allows us to suspect François Vérove. In addition to this, the rope knot used to “neutralize” Gilbert G. evokes his criminal signature.
As a reminder, the serial killer who took his own life in 2021, served as a police officer for several years. And PA MAC 50 bullets are the ammunition used by gendarmes with their service weapon.
Another element that links Grêlé to the affair? The fact that the victim’s checkbook was used the day after his murder to buy a VCR. “The seller of the equipment, heard by investigators at the time, mentioned a customer who presented him with a tricolor card specific to gendarmes and police officers”note BFMTV.
François Vérove decided to take his own life in 2021 before the police found him
Our colleagues also recall that François Verove, who participated in the show Everyone wants to take their place from Nagui, “had bought his motorcycle from an individual in Seine-et-Marne with a stolen check, without us yet knowing at this stage whether or not the latter belonged to Gilbert G”.
While investigators were preparing to get their hands on Le Grêlé for all the crimes he had committed during his life, he killed himself before being unmasked. However, he left a letter in which he accused himself of the murders, without giving the names of his victims.
