Thunderbolt in the second round of the Australian Open Grand Slam! Indeed, last season’s finalist, Daniil Medvedev, was eliminated in a match after a 5-hour suspense and in 5 sets by the young 19-year-old American Learner Tien. The latter faces the 25-year-old Frenchman, Corentin Moutet, in the round of 16 this Saturday. Learner Tien continues the incredible series of 5 consecutive victories for his first participation in the Australian Open. He entered this Grand Slam through qualifying, then played two first rounds in 5 sets, first against Camilo Ugo Carabelli (94th in the world), then against the number 5 seed, Daniil Medvedev.
For his part, Corentin Moutet joins his other French compatriots in the 3rd round of this tournament. He won his first round by coming back to score against number 25 seed Alexei Popyrin, in a 4-set match. He then won his second round against Mitchell Krueger, 146th in the world, once again in a match in 4 sets lasting almost 4 hours. Semi-finalist in Metz to conclude his previous season, the Frenchman has the opportunity to reach the round of 16 for the first time in this Australian Grand Slam.
