Having settled in California since 2020 and their resounding departure from the British royal family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can only feel concerned by the fires currently ravaging the city of Los Angeles. On January 10, the British press announced in particular that the couple had opened the doors of their house in Montecito, located north of the city of angels, to evacuated friends.
The same day, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were filmed in the streets of Los Angeles participating in a food distribution, before going to thank the firefighters mobilized to put out the fires. Images which have raised numerous criticisms, with some accusing the couple of playing “disaster tourists”, a term which designates those who visit disaster areas for their leisure.
No doubt accustomed to this type of reflection, Harry and Meghan have not yet become demobilized. The couple reportedly made a large donation to the World Central Kitchen, via its foundation, and is currently working with several local associations. Meghan is particularly close to “The Altadena Girls”, an organization which supports young teenage girls from disadvantaged backgrounds and which is now mobilizing to help those who lost everything in the fires.
