The new electricity prices for 2025 are known.
It’s now official. The energy regulation commission (CRE) has unveiled the new electricity prices which will come into force from 1is February 2025. As announced weeks ago, most French people will benefit from a 15% reduction on their bill, starting next month. Good news for the wallets of many households. However, customers of certain offers will, for their part, have to pay more. An increase of 9% was announced.
15% reduction for some…
These pricing differences depend on the type of contract you have subscribed to. Blue Tariff, fixed price market offer, variable price market offer… Price changes differ depending on the contract. Don’t know what offer you have? It’s very easy to find it. For an Engie customer, all you have to do is take their last electricity bill. On the penultimate page, after the box “Payment by TIP S€PA”, a section concerns “Your energy contract with Engie”. There it indicates the name of your electricity contract with, in parentheses, what it refers to.
The people who will benefit from the 15% price reduction are those who have the words “market price” written next to the name of their contract. These are contracts with a regulated sales rate, as well as contracts indexed to the regulated rate: 24 million households have this type of contract. From 1is February, the price per kWh will drop from €0.281 to €0.239, a drop of 15%. Even if taxes increase, the overall bill will drop by 15%.
…and 9% increase for others
Concerning the 10 million households with another type of contract, in particular “market offer” contracts, the amount of the bill will, for its part, increase. Here, it is not just the price of the kWh to take into account – this varies regularly depending on the market -: taxes are also to be taken into account (TICFE and TURPE). In total, an increase of 8 to 9% in the rating is expected for these customers.
