The AFA Ethics Tribunal has opened a case against the club, head coach Cristian Fabbiani and streamer Spreen. The sanctions were as follows:
The worst could yet come for Riestra, Fabbiani and Spreen.
The AFA sanction could be light if the club, head coach and streamer are found guilty of directly or indirectly participating in illegal betting due to the inclusion of Spreen in the match between Riestra and Vélez during of the 22nd day of the Liga Profesional 2024.
At the time, the Prosecutor’s Office announced the opening of a judicial investigation.
“The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Games (FEJA), led by Juan Rozas, initiated an investigation to determine whether, yesterday, during the football match between Deportivo Riestra and Vélez, the coach Cristian Fabbiani and the influencer Iván Buhajeruk aimed to attract punters to illegal platforms.”
The ongoing investigation has not yet resulted in a verdict, having been opened ex officio due to suspicions that Riestra, Fabbiani and Spreen aimed to seduce illegal punters through their actions, which are severely punished by the courts for fraud.
We will see what the justice system decides once the investigation is complete, and whether the AFA sanction turns out to be lenient or whether the leniency comes from the justice system turning a blind eye to such actions in Argentine football.
