For several weeks, Koné has suffered repeated fires which turn out to be intentional. The police traced a young person under the age of eighteen who admitted to his participation in several fires in the Bellevue housing estate. Including the one who destroyed a home on the night of December 23 to 24.
Hot flashes and cold sweats. Over the past three months, in Koné, the residents of the Bellevue housing estate have experienced a long nightmare. Flames ravaged their neighborhood several times. Fires that owed nothing to chance.
On the night of December 23 to 24, one of them destroyed a house, without causing any casualties. The Koné gendarmes quickly concluded that this fire was intentional. On January 2, it burned again, in the bushes near the housing estate. Significant resources are being implemented to put an end to the disaster but also to search for the arsonist. That day, early in the evening, a house was deliberately set ablaze.
The gendarmerie explains that from that moment on, Koné’s company monitored the area carefully, with the assistance of specialized services, and carried out important investigations. On January 11, two minors were arrested.
In police custody, say the gendarmes, one of them admitted his participation in the six fires committed between October 30, 2024 and January 9, 2025, which caused a reign of terror in this neighborhood. That’s not all: the connection was made with another devastating fire, started on October 17 near the Koné aerodrome.
The young man was presented before the public prosecutor and the juvenile judge. His trial is scheduled for May 7. In the meantime, he has been placed in a home in Nouméa and is prohibited from appearing in Koné. The other minor arrested was exonerated.
