During adolescence, it is normal to deny any resemblance, apparent or not, to our parents. Once we become adults, genetics catch up with us, to the point where the similarities are more and more striking. According to a British study, carried out by Dr Julian De Silva of Centre of Facial Cosmetic Surgerya woman will start to resemble her mother around the age of 33, while a man will start to imitate his father around the age of 34. Still according to the specialist, this awareness occurs at the turn of the thirties, when the period of rebellion against the parent of the same sex definitively ceases. The reason is simple: the arrival of parenthood, which shakes up perspectives.
More than half of the women interviewed for this survey, or 52%, said that they had started to adopt behaviors and attitudes very similar to their mother from the age of 33. They also recognized that they had developed the same television tastes, enjoyed the same hobbies and used the same expressions during this period.
The same phenomenon occurs in men, but a year later. It is around the age of 34, when they generally have their first child, that a man will develop the same political ideals, but also the same interests as his father.
In either case, the greater the physical similarities, the more marked the behavioral similarities seem. In other words, the more we notice that we physically resemble the parent of the same sex, the more we tend to repeat the same gestures.
To arrive at these results, Dr. De Silva gathered and surveyed 2000 participants, both male and female. According to him, everyone will, one day or another, resemble their mother or father. This is a natural phenomenon that should be celebrated. The appearance of these similarities offers a new perspective, which allows us to better appreciate those who gave us life.
