Tahiti, January 15, 2025 – Having gone fishing with his wife during a night out in Ua Pou this Tuesday, the body of a 55-year-old man was found this Wednesday morning. The strong swell capsized their double canoe and he was not as lucky as his wife who was able to swim ashore to raise the alarm.
As reported by our colleagues from Polynesia 1erait was around midnight that the couple’s boat overturned due to very rough seas. Unlike her husband, the woman managed to swim to dry land and walked for three hours before reaching the village to raise the alarm. The fishermen immediately mobilized to begin the search, helped by the gendarmes, municipal police and firefighters, and it was not until 6 a.m. this Wednesday morning that the man’s body was found.
