L’TikTok’s future in the United States is under threat. By January 19, the Chinese social network could be banned on American territory, despite pleas from Donald Trump. If this constitutes a significant loss of audience for the platform (170 million users in the United States), it is not the first time that TikTok has encountered such a ban. Other social networks are also not spared around the world.
Public security and the protection of residents’ personal data are the reasons regularly given to justify the banning of these platforms. For example, in June 2020, the Indian government declared that it was terminating the activity of TikTok and 59 other Chinese applications in the country, “after considering that they are engaging in activities harmful to sovereignty and integrity. of India, the defense of India, as well as its security and public order”.
