The pace then dropped a little until the opening score came from the feet of Tolu Arokodare. The Genko striker got rid of Joel Ordonez’s marking to flat-foot a cross from Jarne Steuckers (28th, 0-1). Ordonez, however, redeemed himself six minutes later by equalizing from a corner. The Colombian defender, forgotten at the far post, rose higher than Bryan Heynen to send the ball into the ceiling (34th, 1-1).
The intensity did not drop a notch in the second half but the opportunities were rarer. Bruges nevertheless showed more presence in the opposing camp and was rewarded with a penalty for a foul by Mujaid Sadick on Jutgla after the intervention of the VAR. Christos Tzolis left Penders no chance with a powerful strike (74th, 2-1).
It is therefore with a one-goal advantage that Bruges will travel to Limburg for the return match on Wednesday February 5.
On Thursday, the first leg of the other semi-final between Anderlecht and Antwerp will be played at Lotto Park (8:45 p.m.) before the return match on Thursday February 6 at Bosuil.
