Roberto Carballés joined Carlos Alcaraz in the third round of the Australian Open on Wednesday. The Granadian tennis player beat Australian James Duckworth in three sets (6-4, 6-2, 7-5), marking his best performance in the first Grand Slam of the season, where he had never exceeded the second round.

In a match interrupted twice due to rain, the second interruption occurring one game before the outcome of the duel in favor of the Spaniard, Carballés managed to advance to the second round after two and a half hours of play.

The Spanish player, currently ranked 57th in the ATP rankings, will face the winner of the match between Japanese Kei Nishikori and American Tommy Paul in the third round.
