Following the decree of the Prime Minister, signed on December 31, 2024, appointing Dr Marie Solange, wife Ebongue Manga, to the prestigious position of Director of the Laquintinie Hospital in Douala, the Minister of Public Health of Cameroon, Manaouda Malachie, having to alongside the ministers Narcisse Mouelle Kombi of physical education and sports and Jean Ernest Massena Ngallé Bibéhè, of transport, proceeded on January 13 2025, at the esplanade of the Samuel Eto’o Pavilion, at its official installation.
She thus replaces Dr. Nöel Emmanuel Essomba, and becomes the 18th and the very first woman to direct this health facility since its creation in 1931.
Presentation of the Laquintinie hospital in Douala
Created in 1931 and covering an area of 9 hectares, the Laquintinie hospital in Douala, a second category health facility, is located in the heart of Douala, the economic capital of Cameroon and a cosmopolitan city of around 5 million inhabitants. It is the largest health facility in Cameroon in terms of reception capacity (beds). With a significant daily attendance estimated at an average of 5,000 people (patients, visitors, caregivers, etc.). Laquintinie Hospital plays a central role in the socialization and humanization of care, promotes a participatory policy and staff involvement in its development projects.

Who is Marie Solange wife Ebongue Manga
Born October 30, 1980 in Yaoundé, Dr. Marie Solange married Ebongue Manga is married and mother of 4 children. She is originally from Yingui, Yabassi district, Nkam department, Littoral region. She holds a doctorate in medicine from the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University of Yaoundé I.
She is also a teacher and lecturer in the science department at the University of Douala. To her credit, numerous scientific articles and works written by this renowned cardiologist and former president of the Association of Doctors of Cameroon (formerly Medcamer). She is a member of several learned societies. It is therefore a health professional who will now be in charge of the Laquintinie hospital in Douala.

According to Manaouda Malachie, Minister of Public Health of Cameroon, “the populations of Douala in particular and those of Cameroon in general, expect a respectful and efficient service from this new management team. I am convinced that the new management team, under the leadership of its director, will have to instill a new dynamic in order to meet these expectations.”
“For my part, I reiterate to you Madam Director, strict compliance with the procedures in force, complete availability. Give an attentive ear to all the suggestions, which will be formulated with a view to improving the quality of care in the health service within the Laquintinie hospital in Douala,” he adds.
His installation puts an end to the interim regime led by Professor Guy Pascal Ngaba, under which this hospital operated, after the appointment of Dr Noël Emmanuel Essomba, to the post of Director of the Yaoundé general hospital, on November 25, 2024.
