Since January 1, 2025, the benchmark sales price of natural gas, published monthly by the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), has seen a notable increase. This reference tariff, essential for comparing offers from different energy suppliers, increased by 4.38% compared to December 2024.

A significant increase

The benchmark gas price is now set at 145,04 €/MWh VAT included (all taxes included) against 138,95 €/MWh including tax in December 2024, an increase of approximately 4,38 %.

Here are the details of the price changes:

  • Price per kWh of gas (kilowatt hour) for heating : in January 2025, the average price is €0.11845 including tax, up 5.41% compared to €0.11237 including tax in December 2024;
  • Price per kWh for cooking and hot water : The price reaches €0.14743 including tax in January 2025, an increase of 4.3% compared to €0.14135 including tax for the previous month.

It is important to note that, despite these increases, the cost of the annual natural gas subscription remains unchanged since July 2024 :

  • Cooking/hot water subscription : €114.30 VAT per year;
  • Heating subscription : €277.43 VAT per annum.

What impact for consumers?

This increase in the benchmark price can result in an increase in gas bills for households using gas, whether for heating, cooking or hot water.

However, suppliers are not required to change their price scales based on the benchmark gas price. They have the freedom to freely set the gas price of their offers. The benchmark price is only a reference to allow consumers to compare prices.

How to react to this increase?

  • Compare offers : use online comparators, such as LeLynx.fr, to analyze the different quotes from energy suppliers and find the most interesting offer;
  • Consider fixed price offers : certain offers allow the price of kWh to be stabilized over a specific period, thus protecting you against market fluctuations;
  • Optimize your consumption : adopt eco-responsible actions and consider energy improvement work to reduce your gas consumption.

By staying informed, you can mitigate the impact of this increase on your energy budget!
