Nine years already. This Tuesday, January 14, 2025 marks a sad anniversary for Céline Dion. It was in fact on this date, in 2016, that her husband and mentor, René Angélil, died after a long battle with throat cancer. A significant event which left an indelible mark on the singer’s life.
Since then, Celine Dion has never stopped paying tribute to the man she considered her greatest support. This year again, she shared a poignant message on her social networks: “René, we can’t believe it’s already been nine years since you left. Not a day goes by without us feeling your presence, RC, Eddy, Nelson and me. You were my biggest support, my partner, and the one who always saw the best in me. I honor you and we miss you forever, my love… We love you“.
Moving words that recall the unconditional love that united the couple. René Angélil, in addition to being Céline’s husband, was also the man who discovered her immense talent when she was just a teenager. Under his management, the singer’s career reached global heights, making her an international icon.
Celine Dion suffering from a rare disease
For Céline, January 14 is a day of reflection and memories. In addition to René’s disappearance, she also faced many challenges, particularly personal ones.
“Diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder, called ‘stiff-person syndrome’, which affects approximately one in 1 million people“, Celine Dion went through a particularly dark period from which she seems to be emerging little by little. Especially since this rare disease is still a mystery for researchers.
“I sometimes have great difficulty walking and I can’t always use my vocal cords to sing as I wish“, she confided on her social networks. In December 2022, she was forced to announce the cancellation of her European tour.
