Almost perfect entry-level drone with small compromises: DJI Flip Test

Like every DJI drone, the DJI Flip can be controlled with your smartphone and the DJI Fly app or alternatively with a remote control like the DJI RC-2. The user interface is very well done and tutorials are quickly accessible. The DJI Flip is very easy to control, even for beginners, and there are also ready-made flight and recording modes. In addition, the drone can be controlled by voice.

During our practical flights, the drone was able to stay very stable in one place, even in strong winds. The top speed in sport mode is a fast 57.6 km/h, which corresponds to its sister model DJI Mini 4 Pro. For safe flying with obstacle detection, the slightly slower normal mode is recommended; flights that are as smooth as possible and impressive recordings can be achieved with the even slower Cine mode.

Overall, the concept of the DJI Flip convinced us, even if the price is a bit high for an entry-level drone. The manufacturer’s recommended retail price is 439 euros, making the DJI Flip more than twice as expensive as the DJI Neo and also more expensive than the DJI Mini 3 (see test report).

We can highly recommend the DJI Flip in the Fly More Combo: Although it costs significantly more at 779 euros, the package includes the very good DJI RC-2 remote control with display and a total of three batteries with charging cradle, which increases the flight time to around 1.5 hours. This means there shouldn’t be any frustration even on a longer excursion because there are still so many tempting subjects that could be filmed from the air, but the battery is already running low.
