Arriving at the club in 1966 at the age of 31 after spells at Bath and Plymouth Argyle, Book was quickly named captain and won five titles with the Citizens, including the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1970. Retired from pitches in 1974, the former right-back moved to the bench of Manchester City, which he first led in a prosperous period, from 1974 to 1979. Notably winner of the League Cup in 1976, Book had two short stints on the Mancunian bench in 1989 and 1993.
