The Model Y is Tesla’s best-selling vehicle. Its style, like that of the brand’s other products, apart from the Model 3 which saw its design retouched, was aging. With competition that continues to multiply and sharpen, an update of the model was in order.
The new Model Y design has just appeared online on Tesla’s Chinese site, without fanfare. The version, named Juniper, displays new front and rear signatures which are, frankly, very successful. The front bumper features cleaner lines and new, more tapered headlights fit into a new light bar that spans the width.
At the rear, the lighting treatment is similar, with a light that runs the width of the tailgate. The rest of the design is subtle, and the tall, rounded proportions have been retained.
On board, the changes have also modernized the presentation, and everything is in line with the changes that were made with the Model 3. The improvements include ventilated front seats (option), a redesigned steering wheel with button-operated turn signals. pusher, and a rear screen for passengers. The latter serves as both a panel for climate controls and an entertainment screen for games and video content.
What is not visible in the photos or the Chinese site is the quality of the materials. If we followed the recipe adopted with the Model 3, we can expect progress on this side as well.
Of course, we are talking here about the model intended for China. The same changes should affect North American models, but you always have to be careful in this kind of situation. What is quite certain is that you at least have the new exterior style of the models that will be driving here.
Differences are more possible in terms of battery and variants.
We will also have to wait for the prices, but the launch of the reworked version in China tells us that everything could well happen during the coming year here.
