Zizou Bergs (ATP 60) took the door in the first round of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the season on Tuesday. Disappointed by this early elimination, the Limburger nevertheless prefers to retain the positive aspects of recent weeks.

Bergs lost in five sets after more than four hours of play 6-7 (5/7), 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 against the Argentinian Facundo Diaz Acosta (ATP 73 ). His adventure in Melbourne will have ended after just one match. However, the Belgian No.2 was full of confidence after his first final in an ATP tournament, lost on Saturday in Auckland against Gaël Monfils. In New Zealand, he played seven matches including qualifying, which left its mark physically. “I think I’m a bit of a victim of my success in Auckland,” he said. “When you arrive here, and the first session tires you out quickly, you hope that an afternoon of rest will be enough to get you back on your feet. But when that’s not the case on match day, you know that it’s will be complicated.”
