Winner this Tuesday of the 10th edition of the Vendée Globe, Charlie Dalin adds his name to the list of winners of this glorious sailing race.

Second in 2021, Frenchman Charlie Dalin won the 10th Vendée Globe on Tuesday in Les Sables-d’Olonne aboard his boat Macif, establishing a new reference time in the process, in 64 days 19 hours 22 minutes and 49 seconds.

An “Earthling” originally

Born in , Charlie Dalin, 40 years old, however, did not grow up in a family of sailors like most skippers.

As he has always indicated, the big winner of the 2024-2025 edition of the Vendée Globe comes from “a family of earthlings”. He discovered sailing during a summer vacation in Crozon, at the age of 6.

A naval architect

Having become passionate about sailing, Charlie Dalin went to study it at the same time. Indeed, Le Havre obtained a diploma in naval architecture in 2006 in Southampton (United Kingdom). “We learn to reason, to know the strengths and weaknesses of the scientific tools we use, these are methods that I still apply on a daily basis,” he explained to the tipandshaft.com website.

Already first in 2021

In 2021, Charlie Dalin had already crossed the finish line of the Vendée Globe first, in 80 days, 6 hours, 15 minutes and 47 seconds, but he did not win the race. Indeed, he officially finished second behind Yannick Bestaven who benefited from a bonus for having helped Kévin Escoffier.

A nice track record

Winner of the “Everest of the Seas”, Charlie Dalin adds a title to his already well-stocked list of achievements. The forty-year-old has finished on the podium of the Solitaire du Figaro five times without ever winning it. The skipper of Macif Santé Prévoyance has also been twice crowned French solo offshore racing champion (2014, 2016) and world champion in the Imoca class (2021, 2022).
