German Uwe Krupp (59) has been appointed coach of HC Lugano. His contract runs until the end of the season, the Ticino club indicated on its website.
The day after the dismissal of Luca Gianinazzi, the Bianconeri leaders have found their new coach, who will have to try to save a season which is off to a bad start. Lugano occupies the penultimate place in the National League.
Krupp is a big name in hockey, having won the Stanley Cup as a player in 1996 with the Colorado Avalanche and in 2002 with the Detroit Red Wings. The former defenseman played 810 games in the NHL before becoming a coach in 2004.
Uwe Krupp has managed clubs in his country – Kölner Haie and Eisbären Berlin – as well as Sparta Prague. He also coached Germany at five World Cups and two Olympics.
