A year and a half after the Mate X3, Huawei is launching a new high-end folding smartphone in France: the Mate X6. Marketed since November in China, it is already on sale through some French distributors. The selling price is up to the ambitions, but it is not as high as that of its predecessor.
Huawei has not officially launched a folding smartphone in France since the Mate X3, tested in our columns in July 2023. This phone was clearly an extraordinary product. Exceptional in terms of design, with the thinnest chassis of the time. Exceptional in terms of high photographic capabilities compared to its competitors. And unusual in terms of price, since the phone was offered at its launch at 2199 euros. Too high an amount compared to cheaper opponents compatible with Google technologies.

Since the results were not to the advantage of the Mate X3, Huawei did not wish, for 18 months, to relaunch a folding smartphone in France. The Mate X5, Nova Flip and Mate XT remained Asian exclusives. But Huawei is a persistent brand. Like the P range (which became Pura in 20224), the company wants to give itself another chance in the high-end folding smartphone segment and is launching the Mate X6 internationally, available in China since December 19, 2024 .
Huawei’s Mate X6 is cheaper in France than the Mate X3
It is therefore less than a month later that the Mate X6 arrives in France. The smartphone is available todayfirst at Huawei (online and in the Parisian flagship store), before arriving in the coming weeks at a few distributors: Fnac, Darty and Boulanger. The price of the Mate X6 remains quite high, but less than the Mate X3: 1999 eurosor 200 euros less than its predecessor. There is only one version with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. During the first weeks of marketing, Huawei does not lower the price for “early adopters”, but offers accessories.
We had the opportunity to take the Mate X6 in hand during the presentation in Paris. The phone comes in three colors, black, white and red. But it is obviously the red that instantly catches the eye. The materials are premium. The hinge feels solid and the crease isn’t that pronounced on the internal screen. Huawei promises that the photographic capabilities are excellent and thatAurora Store is a credible and secure alternative to the Play Store which is still conspicuous by its absence.
