Evgeni Malkin will miss a second straight game when the Pittsburgh Penguins host the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday (7 p.m. ET; TVAS, SN, SN-PIT).
The 38-year-old veteran was left out at the last minute Tuesday, missing a 4-3 shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets with an upper-body injury. He was sidelined for the first time since a four-game suspension for a double failure from April 12 to 21, 2022.
After Tuesday’s game, coach Mike Sullivan said he wasn’t sure when Malkin suffered the injury.
Malkin is one of 11 players who took part in Thursday’s optional practice.
“He is skating this morning and his status will be determined before the game,” Sullivan said in the morning. It is evaluated daily. »
-Malkin participated in all of Wednesday’s practice, but he did not practice with his line and on the power play. Cody Glass remained at the center of the second line, in Malkin’s usual position.
Malkin is third on the Penguins with 32 points (eight goals, 24 assists) in 41 games this season.
Forward Philip Tomasino, assessed weekly with a lower-body injury, skated solo Thursday, but will miss a third straight game.
