After Newcastle’s surprise victory against Arsenal last night (2-0), another unexpected result took place this evening for the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg. Leader in the Premier League and the Champions League, Liverpool, undefeated since September 14 and a defeat at Anfield against Nottingham Forest, lost on the lawn of Tottenham (1-0), who for their part, no longer had won a single match since December 19. At the end of a slow first period marked by the worrying stretcher exit of Rodrigo Bentancur, the score was goalless.
Liverpool lose to Tottenham!
In the second half, the locals were close to opening the score shortly before the hour mark after a blunder by Alisson but Pedro Porro was unable to find the net (76th). In the 69th minute, it was Darwin Nuñez who had the opportunity to give the Reds the lead but Antonin Kinsky blocked the Uruguayan. The end of the match was eventful. If Dominik Solanke saw his goal disallowed for nothing following an offside, Lucas Bergvall finally allowed Spurs to score, win the match and take a small option on qualifying for the final. A goal which did not fail to cause controversy since the Swede could (should) have received a second yellow card a few minutes earlier. Four months later, Liverpool falls! The return match will take place at Anfield on February 6 (9 p.m.).
