The roof of a building in downtown Montauban collapsed this Tuesday evening. Fortunately, there were no casualties. 4 families were evacuated, as were neighboring buildings and the road was condemned.

A great fear for the lady living at 2e floor and top floor of this building located Grand rue Villenouvelle, in Montauban. This Tuesday, January 7, in the evening, she heard cracking noises around 9:30 p.m. It is in fact the roof which gradually collapses into the attic, just above it, over a total area of 90m².
The authorities were alerted, and around twenty firefighters were immediately mobilized. They will evacuate several people, including this lady but also some residents of adjoining buildings, as well as the one opposite. In total, the equivalent of 4 households were evacuated, then rehoused, either by the town hall, by Tarn-et-Garonne Habitat, or by relatives. There was no no injuries to report.
The cars parked in front were damaged by falling pieces of briquettes. The bakery located on the ground floorat 21 Grand rue Villenouvelle, no will not be able to reopen this Wednesday January 8.
Tarn-et-Garonne Habitat, owner of the building, visited the site in the evening. The experts who came afterwards were able to inspect the building in the early morning, to carry out an initial assessment. A tarpaulin was placed on the roofand the threatening pieces of briquettes must soon be reissued.
Adjoining buildings were not impacted but in-depth checks must be carried out. A jeopardy order must be issued to secure the entire site, and this portion of the street included, therefore prohibiting traffic in this busy area during rush hours.
On August 23, 2023, the staircase of a building in the hyper-center of Montauban collapsed, requiring the evacuation of residents by large ladder. It was a building managed by Tarn-et-Garonne Habitat.
