PCH closed between Malibu and Santa Monica due to wildfires

Wildfires in the Pacific Palisades area led to the closure of the Pacific Coast Highway in the SoCal area today.

One of the the most famous scenic routes in the world, the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), was closed today, Tuesday January 7, due to significant forest fires in the area. L’ highway, which stretches from Malibu to Santa Monicahas been closed until further notice. THE forest fires in the region of Pacific Palisades have caused mass evacuations and now the PCH is also affected.

Road closures and alternative routes

The City of Santa Monica announced that the Westbound I-10 at Lincoln Blvd and northbound PCH will be closed until further notice. Furthermore, the Topanga Canyon has already been closed to traffic as a precaution. People wishing to travel between the Los Angeles area and Ventura County are advised to use the highways 101 and 405.

This emergency situation is due to the strong winds blowing across the SoCal region today. A High Wind Warning and Red Flag Fire Warning have been issued for LA County and Ventura County and are expected to last through Wednesday. Here are the areas expected to be most affected. Take this into account when planning evacuation routes.

  • LA County: Pasadena, Burbank, San Fernando Valley, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Porter Ranch, Sylmar, Altadena, La Crescenta, Malibu and the Santa Monica mountains.
  • Ventura County: Simi Valley and areas along the Highway 118/210 corridors.
