The military court of North Kivu, sitting in second degree criminal matters, opened public hearings on Tuesday January 7 in a fairground in the town of Beni (North Kivu).
In total, 23 files, including two in continuation, are entered in the extract of the role for this fairground chamber.
Among the 23 defendants are 17 civilians, including two women, and 6 soldiers of the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC), prosecuted for various offenses, in particular for rape, armed robbery, attack, violation of instructions or even dissipation of ammunition.
The facts put against them cover the period from 2021 to 2025.
This Tuesday, the military court proceeded to examine the cases after the identification of the defendants.
For the two defendants whose cases are continuing, the public prosecutor is prosecuting them for participation in an insurrectional movement, contempt of the army and participation in an enterprise to demoralize the army.
This is particularly the case of Master Christian Uteki Udongo, lawyer at the Bunia bar in the province of Ituri. He was arrested by the military prosecutor’s office of the Beni garrison in 2024.
Three other defendants are being prosecuted for criminal conspiracy and murder committed to facilitate armed robberies.
