It is one of the last two gateways to Russian territory which is partly closed from Europe. And which will make access a little more complex for travelers going to Russia.
The company Air Serbia remains, alongside Turkish Airines, one of the few companies in Europe to offer flights to Russia with possible connections to the rest of the continent. But the crash in Aktau in Kazakhstan from a planeAzerbaijan Airlines on December 25, which operated a connection between Baku and Grozny, changed the situation. The plane was hit, according to experts, by Russian anti-aircraft missile fire.
This area in the south of Russia, which borders the Black Sea and borders Georgia and Kazakhstan, is in fact regularly the target of drones coming from Ukraine.
Suspension of lines to Sochi and Kazan
Due to the insecurity in the area, many airlines have already suspended their flights. Air Serbia has just announced that it will suspend its flights from Belgrade to Sochi and Kazan from January 19 and 20 until the end of the winter season. The information was reported on January 4 by the Russian Association of Tour Operators. Both airports are regularly closed due to drone threats.
On the other hand, Air Serbia continues to operate its routes from Belgrade to Moscow and St. Petersburg. The company offers two daily frequencies to Moscow and one frequency per day to Saint Petersburg.
Furthermore, Air Serbia has announced its 2025 summer program. Additional weekly frequencies will be introduced on around fifty routes. Among the cities which will benefit from one more frequency per week, include Brussels and Paris. Air Serbia also flies from Lyon and Nice to Belgrade.
