NHL: Dallas Stars beat New York Rangers 5-4 in overtime

The New York Rangers nightmare is very real.

The New York team let a quick three-goal lead slip away in the first period to finally lose 5-4 to the Dallas Stars in overtime on Tuesday.

The Rangers had managed to take a 3-0 lead in less than 12 minutes in the first period, but true to form, they let the opponent come back to finally lose.

It was a power play goal from Jamie Benn at 2:17 of overtime that ensured this fifth victory in a row for the Stars. Benn deflected the puck past Jonathan Quick while Artemi Panarin overshadowed his excellent performance by warming the penalty box on the winning goal.

This is the first time since last March that the Stars have come back from a three-goal deficit to win.

The Rangers thought they would get away with it when Vincent Trocheck, with his second of the game during a power play with less than eight minutes left, put his team ahead by a goal. Trocheck was also an accomplice on another Rangers goal.

But once again, the Stars did not give up and Thomas Harley leveled the chances with less than three minutes remaining in regulation with a wrist shot that Quick was unable to stop.

Harley participated in three goals with a goal and two assists. Jason Robertson and Evgenii Dadonov each scored a goal and had an assist.

This rout of the Rangers cast a certain darkness on the performance of Alexis Lafrenière, who scored two goals in the first period. The Quebecer had not hit the target for 30 days, his last goal dating back to December 8. This is the seventh time in his career that Lafrenière has scored two goals in a game.

Panarin had three assists in the first period alone. This is the 19th time in his career that he has collected so many assists during a commitment, including a 13th time since he joined the Rangers, which allows him to join the top in the history of the Rod Gilbert team.

Stars goalie Jake Oettinger picked up his second assist of the season, on Matt Duchene’s goal, it was his sixth career. He faced 25 shots while Quick was tested 40 times.
