POLITICS – Everything did not go as planned for Marine Le Pen. Visiting Mayotte a month after the passage of Cyclone Chido, the three-time candidate for the presidential election was the victim of a boat accident while trying to reach Grande-Terre from Petite-Terre this Tuesday, January 7.
According to BFMTV, this collision “without gravity” took place with a barge coming in the opposite direction. The far-right leader was not injured and was able to be evacuated by a border police shuttle. But at least three other people, also on board, were slightly injured. One of them even felt unwell. Everyone was evacuated.
“It was coming very, very, very quickly. It was inevitable”reacted Marine Le Pen at the microphone of Mayotte la 1ère. If she considers “to have been lucky”the MP explains that “it hit pretty hard” and one of the passengers “broke one or two ribs”. “I’m used to boats”she added.

Passengers “on the ground”
The precise circumstances of the accident are not yet known. The departmental delegate of the RN in Mayotte Saidali Boina Hamissi declared to BFMTV: “We don’t know what happened, the barges collided”. According to him, “the vast majority of people found themselves on the ground” but Marine Le Pen, she “remained seated, clinging to her chair”. Opposite, the boat “was almost at full power, it was incomprehensibletells Mayotte the first one of the people on board. We were quite close. It could have been worse”.
Jean-Marie Le Pen’s daughter spent three days in Mayotte, meeting the victims. A visit in the form of a red carpet, since the 101st French department had voted almost 60% for her in the second round of the presidential election in 2022. Her anti-immigration and anti-insecurity fads hit the mark in this devastated territory.
