An ice hockey match was interrupted for more than 45 minutes this weekend in the United States after more than 100,000 stuffed animals were thrown onto the ice.
An impressive outpouring of generosity. While their team was facing Providence in the AHL (NHL Minor League) on Sunday evening, Hershey Bears fans threw no less than 102,343 stuffed animals onto the ice at the Giant Center during the traditional “teddy-bear toss” after the first goal scored by Michael Sgarbossa. This is quite simply a world record.
And this impressive pile of stuffed toys, thrown by the 10,514 spectators present in the enclosure (i.e. an average of 9.7 stuffed animals per spectator), caused the match to be interrupted for more than 45 minutes, the time to collect everything . Local players helped out with their sticks to collect all the teddy bears, which will be donated to charities to be distributed to children.
Once the ice was cleaned, the match was able to resume and the Bears finally won by a large margin (5-1). The party was thus total.
