Is it possible to have four speeding tickets in a row on the same day, in the same place? The answer is yes. And when the driver, a French student driver, manages to reach 140 km/h on a road limited to 60 km/h, the case ends before the judge.
Two years after the events, the case was on the agenda of the Police Court this Tuesday morning. It was dispatched in a few minutes since an agreement had been reached between the young driver, his lawyers and the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Thanks to this agreement, the simplified procedure concluded with a suspended sentence of twenty-four months for fundamental violation of road traffic rules, a fine and procedural costs payable by the young driver aged around twenty. of years.
In the same sense
With such a record, could anyone who was behind the wheel of a Toyota registered in France contest anything? Not really. Because the speeding violations were committed on the same day in January 2023, all on the Quai de Cologny and in the same direction, towards the city. Obviously, the mood was to go back and forth, pressing the mushroom.
Speeds measured: 140 km/h the first time, then 139 km/h two hours later. In between, it flashed at 113 km/h and 99 km/h a few hundred meters further on, on the General-Guisan quay.
These offenses resulted in the driver being banned from driving in Switzerland, a measure he did not respect. A few months after his first exploits, he was intercepted at the wheel of the same Toyota on the road to Saint-Julien. To date, the traffic ban is still in force.
“Not an empty sentence”
On Tuesday, given the simplified procedure, no debate took place in this pre-arranged trial. But judge Katerina Figurek Ernst wanted to warn the young man who faced him and whose probation period was set at three years: “Sir, if you commit any offense during this period, you will have to do the twenty-four months! This is not an empty sentence!” Head bowed, the young man nodded shyly.
